My Statement

Lincoln Unfiltered

For my capstone project, I chose to create a magazine that focuses on the community, and unique parts of Lincoln, Nebraska. This publication is designed as a guide for young adults, particularly freshly graduated college students who are new to the city and looking to connect with its best-kept secrets and vibrant spots. Inspired by my past move and my future move to a different state, this magazine provides a curated look into the Lincoln experience and a warm welcome to those just beginning their journey in a place I have called home.

In crafting this magazine, I aimed to go beyond traditional lifestyle content. My design choices are meant to reflect the energy and character of Lincoln through the visually engaging layout, bold typography, and fun photographs. Each page captures a unique part of life in Lincoln, from cozy coffee shops and hometown stores to bustling nightlife.

Ultimately, my goal is for this magazine to serve as both a practical guide and an artistic narrative that inspires newcomers to discover, connect, and make Lincoln feel like home.

Process

I have worked on this project for the past nine months, over this time I had a blast with my friend from trying different restaurants, bars, concerts, events and much more.

Me and my coworkers join spikes for the first time. Turns out that we are not that good, but we still got a trophy for having the lowest score of the season with a zero
I attend my first husker game with my friend that came from out of state. Obviously we had to go to the Colorado game (our biggest rival).
My friends got very excited if you can’t tell.
I tried a river life tour with my coworkers and to say we had a blast would be a under statement. The owner does competitive jet boats, so before the ride was over he took us on a joy ride of speed, twists and 360’s.
Oktoberfest was later in the week after that rive boat tour. Polka, beer, dancing and bunch of laughs. Stein holding was not for me but my boyfriend ended up getting 3rd place with 6 min of a full stein with his arm all the way out.
Then my friend and I went out for some birthday martini at Barrymores, a little bar behind a theater. A really sick almost speak easy bar. I recommend the chocolate martini if you go in.
This was the spring game, everyone stop by for breakfast and come coffee. We camped in the champions club right next to campus.

Every Thursday we ended at the zoo bar for karaoke night with a live band.
