Kat Morrow
[BFA] Studio Art – Painting + Printmaking
In this collection of oil paintings and monotype prints, I explore the simultaneous humor and horror of American pop culture. I examine themes of artifice and abstraction through my subjects, presenting them in an unnerving and absurd, yet accurate, spotlight. By exaggerating light, color, and size, I emphasize the drama of the subjects, confronting the viewer with immersive portraiture. My work draws inspiration from figures who embody the performance of their celebrity, capturing their love for performance and stardom—whether it’s reality TV stars stirring chaos, politicians posing for photo ops, or theme park sculptures attempting to convince you that they are Sigourney Weaver from Alien.
