[BFA] Studio Art – Drawing
Ghost Towns is a storyboarding and character design project about the mental health struggles that many young adults face when transitioning from high school to college. It developed through interactive books that feature character observations and scene detailing. My one-of-a-kind books preview the storyline through pop–up’s, cutouts of my drawings, character profiles, comic style scenes, and scrapbook aspects. The books have led me to a new form: an enlarged paper cigarette box with cutouts of my characters placed in scenes. Each side of this piece acts as an introduction to a future animated series. All my works are deeply intertwined in the world I have developed over years. Ghost Towns was inspired by my love of animated tv shows and my passion for sharing feelings of wonder and comfort among the constant changes of life.
Megan Coffman is an artist based in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her handcrafted scrapbook style books show the inner workings of Ghost Towns, a story about a young woman in college who’s learning how to develop healthy coping mechanisms in a challenging time of her life. Coffman is attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, completing a BFA with an option in drawing and an expected graduation of December 2024. Ghost Towns will be included in the Studio Art Capstone Exhibition in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery.
