Shelby Baker
[BA] Studio Art
[Minor] Clifton Builders Management, Leadership and Communication
I am a sculptor who uses wood and furniture making to explore ideas of abundance, community, and connection in domestic spaces. My inspiration for this project came from meeting with several individuals ranging from 85 to 99 years old, asking them where they found abundance in their lives. Every person I interviewed found abundance through their connections and communities. With increasing means of isolation, younger generations are losing opportunities to find abundance through community. The organic shape of the wood table invites people to gather and connect while representing the formation of the relationships fostered around it. True abundance comes from community. To be known is to be loved. Through my connections, I found the value of community and aspire to recreate the feeling of abundance through my work.
