Post 3 – Virtual Reality

Posted by | Daniel Allgood | No Comments

After doing the last lab I’m slowly feeling more confident in coding. Html and css make a lot more sense to me compared to my experience with Java.

Now onto the good stuff. Virtual reality. VR is, simply put a computer rendered 3d space that immerses anyone into it’s world. What google has been doing with cardboard is incredible. They created a incredibly inexpensive VR headset. All you need is a smartphone. Now it works pretty easily. Your phone shows two different images and the lenses in the cardboard help with creating the stereoscopic affect which makes it feel like you quite literally are at that place in your headset.

This project started by only being worked on once a week, and now it’s in the hands of millions. What prompted them to hop on the VR bandwagon was when some of the employees were watching 360 degrees videos on their phones and thought why not just make a headset for the phone that actually makes us feel like we’re there?

It’ll be neat to see where google goes with cardboard, but by the sounds of it they’re in the right direction with ideas such as field trips anywhere in the world for classrooms of kids.

Day 2

After spending a ton of time in class in codeacademy I feel I learned a lot, and it definitely made me want to do more. I went ahead and started working on my fraternity’s website over the weekend as well. Excited for the next class

First Day

This class is pretty much exactly what I’ve been waiting for. The coding I did freshman year should come in handy as we start to do some css! I’ve worked with wordpress before, and it’s definitely a lot more friendly than in it’s previous years so this first day assignment wasn’t too bad. Can’t wait to get started with this class though!
